Mother’s Day 2019: Our Favourite Mum Quotes

Motherhood. It’s the sweetest journey, and absolutely the toughest. And it’s this beautiful journey that bonds women together – because let’s face it, only another mum can truly understand.

In the lead-up to Mother’s Day 2019, we thought we’d share some mum quotes and Mother’s Day reflections. Enjoy!

Mum Quote #1

“Having children just puts the whole world into perspective. Everything else just disappears.” ~ Kate Winslet

Isn’t this so very true? It’s hard to imagine those days when all we had to think about was ourselves. We could eat whenever the mood struck, use the bathroom when we needed to go! We spent a lot of time thinking about ourselves and what we wanted.

But once baby arrives, the world is turned on its head, and suddenly, there is a new centre of our universe. Everything we do is with the happiness and well-being of our babies in mind. It teaches us patience. We learn to love in a way that is more powerful than we could possibly have imagined.

Mum Quote #2

“The moment he wakes up from a nap.… Just a gummy mouth, no teeth, just a big smile, happy that you’re alive and you’re just looking at him. That’s probably the most magical.” ~ Jessica Biel

Is there a sweeter moment than when your bubba calls for you after their nap? A sleepy face, hair sticking up every which way, and yes, that huge, gummy smile. Heaven!

And even if they’ve only napped for an hour, we begin to miss their precious little faces! Oh, these moments are locked away in our hearts forever – even when they are blurry in our memories.

Mum Quote #3

“When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.” ~ Sophia Loren

Once a baby is born, the decision-making process is forever changed. Life becomes a little more complicated to plan but so much richer for it.

All mums know the juggle. The balancing act between what they need and what their baby needs. And sometimes those two things can be at odds. That’s why when mums bond together to help one another out, we can share the load. Community is never more important for women than once we become mums. And what a beautiful community we build!

Mum Quote #4

“Having kids – the responsibility of rearing good, kind, ethical, responsible human beings – is the biggest job anyone can embark on.” ~ Maria Shriver

Mums are teachers. And it is up to us to set the values we hope our kids will grow up living by. Small, simple lessons like which bin to use (rubbish or recycling), the importance of saving water and choosing to buy ethical products all help to shape the person our little ones will become. Being gentle with beloved pets. Being careful with our words, even when we are feeling frustrated and cross. Doing good things not because we’ll be praised but because it’s the right thing to do. Kindness first – always.

When we raise caring and eco-conscious little people, we are helping shape the future.

Mum Quote #5

“Being a mom has made me so tired. And so happy.” ~ Tina Fey

So, SO tired. So, SO happy. Not every moment is blissful. Not every moment is easy. In fact, motherhood is one of the hardest jobs in the world. But every second spent on this journey is a beautiful, messy privilege.

Happy Mother’s Day, mamas.
