Boosting baby and toddler’s immune system to help fight off sickness.

Particularly for babies and toddlers, whose stomachs are still getting used to digesting a whole range of food, gut-healing foods are where immunity starts. For mums, it’s easy to provide your children with gut-friendly foods that they will love not only for their taste, but will go a long way to building up their immunity.

Yoghurt and probiotics
Probiotics, or the live active cultures found in yoghurt, are good bacteria that keep the gut healthy and fight off disease.

Gelatin
Not the type of gelatin you get from the baking section at the supermarkets. We’re talking premium quality gelatin from grass-fed healthy animals and sourced for human consumption. Gelatin is a naturally occurring protein and in order to convert collagen from gelatin, several cleansing and purification steps are required in the manufacturing process. The result is an off-white pure powder that can be added to everyday foods and beverages with several health benefits. Gelatin’s high amino acid content supports a healthy mood, strong bones, smooth skin and proper muscle synthesis. It is also great for gut support.

STRAWBERRY AND BEETROOT JELLY

INGREDIENTS:

3 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen)

140mls beetroot juice

1 tbs rice malt syrup

1 tbs gelatin

*NOTE: Ensure you get a quality beef gelatin that is not hydrolysed otherwise it will not set.

METHOD:
Combine ingredients except gelatin in a blender and blitz until smooth. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Add gelatin and whisk thoroughly to ensure no lumps form. Pour into cups. Chill for approximately one hour or until firm.

Citrus fruit
Citrus fruits particularly oranges, are renowned for their concentration of Vitamin C, powerful immune-boosting abilities and anti-inflammatory properties.

Berries
Strawberries are a powerhouse of antioxidants, including Vitamin C. They are known to burn stored fat, boost short-term memory and ease inflammation. They are also low in calories.

Blueberries are one of the only truly blue foods out there. They can improve eye health, the cardiovascular system, brain function, blood sugar levels and are low in fructose.

Camu Camu powder
Derived from the camu berry, this is packed full of vitamin C and anti-viral properties. It tastes great too – simply add to yummy smoothies for your little ones.
